Dhaka, May 22 (V7N) – Former American footballer Thomas Dooley has been appointed as the head coach of the Bangladesh national football team, the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) confirmed on its official Facebook page.
Dooley arrived in Dhaka on Friday morning (May 22) to officially begin his tenure with the national side. The former United States captain featured in the 1998 FIFA World Cup and later served as an assistant coach for the US national team under Jurgen Klinsmann from 2011 to 2014.
The Bangladesh Football Federation had reportedly considered several candidates for the role, including former Wales coach Chris Coleman, but ultimately finalized Dooley for the position.
Meanwhile, football supporters have held a human chain over the past two days demanding the appointment of a high-profile coach for the national team. Fans are also scheduled to meet BFF officials at 12:00 pm today to discuss further expectations regarding the national team’s future direction.
