Quito, Sep 07 (V7N) — After a string of disappointing results, five-time world champions Brazil finally returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Ecuador in the South American World Cup qualifiers. The much-needed win came courtesy of a goal from Rodrigo in the 30th minute at the Kuto Pereira Stadium.

Rodrigo's strike, which deflected off an Ecuadorian defender before finding the back of the net, ended Brazil’s four-match winless run. Brazil had been struggling under interim coach Darival Junior, with a draw followed by three consecutive defeats. The victory has lifted Brazil from sixth to fourth place in the points table, bringing their tally to 10 points from seven matches.

Despite the win, Brazil’s performance continues to raise questions, as the team has yet to fully regain their form following a disappointing exit in the quarter-finals of the Copa America. Fans will be hoping for further improvements as Brazil prepares to face Paraguay on September 11.

Brazil had several chances throughout the match. Gabriel Magalhães narrowly missed an early header in the third minute, while Vinicius Jr. had multiple opportunities to score, including a close call in the 12th minute when a mistake by Ecuador's goalkeeper nearly resulted in a goal. Vinicius also saw another shot in the 27th minute go just wide of the post.

Ecuador came close to equalizing in first-half added time, with Moises Caicedo twice threatening the Brazilian goal. However, goalkeeper Alisson made a crucial save, and Gabriel Magalhães cleared the second attempt off the line.

The second half saw Ecuador put pressure on Brazil, but they were unable to find the back of the net. In the 80th minute, John Mercado missed a chance for Ecuador, and in the final moments of the match, the team failed to capitalize on a free kick just outside the Brazilian box.

Brazil will now look to build on this result as they continue their qualifying campaign, hoping to solidify their place for the 2026 World Cup.
