Asunción, Sep 11 (V7N)-  Brazil's World Cup qualifying campaign for 2026 continues to falter, as the five-time champions suffered yet another defeat, this time against Paraguay. In a lacklustre performance on Wednesday, the Selecao conceded a 1-0 loss, with Diego Gomez scoring the decisive goal for the hosts early in the match.

Brazil’s struggles have become a recurring theme throughout this qualifying round, marking their fourth loss in five matches. Despite a recent 1-0 win against Ecuador, consecutive defeats to Argentina, Colombia, and Uruguay have left coach Darival Junior's side in a precarious position.

In the latest match, despite Brazil dominating possession with 72% of the ball, they failed to capitalise on their control. Of their nine shots, only three were on target, in contrast to Paraguay, who made more efficient use of their chances with two shots on target out of seven attempts. Gomez's powerful strike in the 20th minute, following a clearance from Gabriel, found the back of the net and sealed the victory for Paraguay.

Coach Darival Junior remains optimistic, expressing confidence that Brazil will recover and reach the final of the 2026 World Cup. "We will become a fighting team again, there is no doubt about it," he said, maintaining that the Selecao will eventually return to their dominant form.

As the qualifying campaign progresses, Brazil will need to overcome their current struggles and rediscover the attacking prowess for which they are renowned if they hope to secure their place in the 2026 World Cup.
