Chennai, Sep 16 (V7N)– The Bangladesh cricket team is on the verge of reaching several significant milestones as they gear up for the two-match Test series against India. Fresh off a historic Test series win against Pakistan, the Tigers are confident as they look to beat India in a Test for the first time in history.
The Bangladesh squad has already arrived in Chennai, the venue for the first Test, which will commence on September 19. The second and final Test will take place in Kanpur starting from September 27.
Despite facing tough competition in the past, Bangladesh has never defeated India or South Africa in the Test format. The Tigers have played 13 Tests against India, losing 11 and drawing two, with both drawn matches largely washed out by rain. This series, however, presents a golden opportunity for Bangladesh to finally notch a Test victory over India, bringing their total number of Test wins to double digits. Bangladesh has already secured Test wins against nine different nations.
Several individual records are also on the line for Bangladesh’s players:
Mushfiqur Rahim: The team’s most reliable batsman is just 9 runs away from overtaking Tamim Iqbal as the highest run-scorer for Bangladesh across all three formats. Tamim, who has been absent from cricket since last year, currently holds the record with 15,192 runs. Mushfiqur, with 15,184 runs, is well-positioned to claim the top spot in the series against India.
Taijul Islam: Bangladesh’s left-arm spinner is just 5 wickets shy of becoming the second bowler in the country’s history to take 200 wickets in Tests, following in the footsteps of Shakib Al Hasan. Taijul missed out on achieving this milestone during the Pakistan series due to team selection, but he will be eager to make his mark against India.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz: Following his brilliant performance in the Pakistan series, Miraz has a chance to become the fourth Bangladesh bowler to reach 300 wickets across all three formats. With just 7 wickets needed, he joins a prestigious list led by Shakib Al Hasan, who has an astounding 708 wickets. Mashrafe Mortaza (389) and Mustafizur Rahman (323) are the next two in line.
This series is being eagerly anticipated, as Bangladesh hopes to build on their recent success and take another historic step forward in Test cricket.
