Islamabad, August 15 – Internet services across Pakistan have been severely disrupted, with reports indicating that in some areas, the connection is completely down, while in others, the speed is significantly reduced. This widespread disruption has sparked frustration among internet users and service providers alike.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the regulatory body responsible for overseeing the country's telecommunications, has remained silent on the issue, offering no explanation for the disruptions. This lack of communication has only added to the public's frustration.

Geo News reports that the Pakistani government previously shut down the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) before and after the general elections in February, citing national security concerns as the reason for the decision. The current situation appears to be part of a similar pattern of control over internet access.

As of Wednesday, many users reported difficulties in accessing websites, with some resorting to Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) to bypass the restrictions. Additionally, WhatsApp users in Pakistan have complained about delays in sending messages and problems with uploading and downloading content on the platform.

Aggrieved netizens have accused the government of not only disrupting communication but also violating fundamental rights by restricting access to social media. Many have expressed concern that these actions are damaging Pakistan's international reputation.

The situation remains tense as Pakistani internet users continue to express their anger and demand a resolution to the ongoing disruptions.
