Dhaka, Oct 16 (V7N) — The Chief Justice has decided to send 12 High Court judges, appointed during the tenure of the Awami League government, on leave. The judges were informed of this decision on Wednesday, according to multiple sources within the Supreme Court.

Reports suggest that Chief Justice Syed Refat Ahmed personally invited the judges for tea in his office. During the meeting, the Chief Justice communicated the decision regarding their leave.

The judges in question have reportedly faced allegations of corruption and were accused by some groups of serving as accomplices to what they described as the “fascist Hasina government.” In light of the allegations, the Chief Justice altered his previously scheduled engagements to address the matter on Wednesday.

Simultaneously, members of the anti-discrimination student movement gathered on the High Court premises, demanding the resignation of the judges. They issued an ultimatum, asking for the judges to step down by 2 p.m. However, just before the deadline, news emerged that the judges had been sent on leave, easing the tension within the court premises.

This unprecedented move has sparked significant public interest and raised questions about the judiciary's future direction. Further details on the situation and the duration of the judges' leave are yet to be disclosed.
