Netrakona, Jan 10, (V7N) - A police sub-inspector, Shafiqul Islam, was brutally killed by assailants with sharp weapons in the Dhurgapur upazila of Netrakona district, located on the Bangladesh-India border, on Thursday (January 9).
The incident occurred in the Ukilpara area of the town, where Shafiqul Islam, who was on leave and visiting his village home, was attacked by several individuals with machetes. He suffered severe injuries and was rushed to the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries around 10:30 PM.
Shafiqul Islam, originally from the village of Noagao in Chandigarh Union, had been serving as a Sub-Inspector in Jamalpur Police Lines. On the evening of the attack, he had stepped out to buy groceries when the assailants ambushed him with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured. Local residents attempted to intervene and rushed him to the Upazila Health Complex before he was transferred to the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where he later passed away.
Dr. Farhana, the on-duty doctor at the health complex, confirmed that Shafiqul had suffered multiple injuries, including severe blood loss from a deep wound on his lower right leg. Despite efforts to stabilize him, his injuries were fatal.
The police have initiated an investigation and collected CCTV footage from the crime scene. Efforts to apprehend the perpetrators are underway, with police operations in the area.
