Rajshahi, Mar 23 (V7N) – Ali Hossain, the convener of Rajshahi's Paba Upazila BNP, has been implicated in an extortion and assault case filed at the Katakhali Police Station of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) on Friday night.

The case, filed by Abdul Quddus, alleges that Hossain, along with his son Md. Akash (27) and Md. Shahin (22), extorted money from him and assaulted him. Quddus, a freight (crab transport) vehicle driver, claims that the accused demanded 30,000 taka and threatened him with violence and false charges if he refused.

"Ali Hossain, the convener of Rajshahi's Paba Upazila BNP, has been accused of extortion and assault. A case was filed against him at the Katakhali Police Station of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) on Friday night," a police report confirmed.

According to the complaint, the accused collected the 30,000 taka in three installments of 10,000 taka each on February 26, March 4, and March 13. Additionally, they allegedly demanded 100 taka daily from each vehicle.

On March 16, at approximately 10:30 p.m., another extortion attempt occurred at the Ashraf intersection of Katakhali police station. During this incident, Hossain allegedly assaulted Quddus for delaying payment, with local BNP leaders intervening to rescue the injured driver.

"On March 16, around 10:30 pm, another extortion demand was made at the Ashraf intersection of Katakhali police station. BNP leader Ali Hossain severely beat up the driver for delaying payment," a local source reported.

Hossain has denied the allegations, claiming they are part of a political conspiracy to tarnish his reputation. He alleges that the complainant is involved in a "pond digging syndicate" and filed the case due to local opposition to his soil transportation activities.

"The case against me is part of a political conspiracy. This case has been filed to tarnish my image on the advice of some people in the party. The person who filed the case is a member of a pond digging syndicate. He was trying to transport soil through the road, which the locals did not accept. Therefore, a false case has been filed," Hossain stated.

Katakhali Police Station OC Abdul Matin confirmed the filing of the case and stated that an investigation is underway.

"A case has been filed on charges of extortion and assault. Necessary action will be taken after the investigation," OC Abdul Matin said.
