Dhaka, Mar 25 (V7N) – Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus’s upcoming visit to China will focus on enhancing economic cooperation and attracting Chinese investment to Bangladesh, said Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor.

He made these remarks on Tuesday at a seminar titled LDC Transition: Impact on the Agriculture Sector, organized by the Economic Reporters Forum (ERF) and the Bangladesh Agro-Chemical Manufacturers Association (BAMA) at the ERF office in Paltan, Dhaka.

Key figures at the seminar:

Lutfe Siddiqui, Special Envoy of the Chief Advisor for International Affairs (Chief Guest)

Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor (Special Guest)

Daulat Akhtar Mala, ERF President (Chairperson)

Abul Kashem, ERF General Secretary (Moderator)

Shafiqul Alam emphasized that the primary objective of Dr. Yunus’s visit is to strengthen Bangladesh-China economic ties and bring in more Chinese investments.

“This government is committed to diversifying exports beyond the garment sector. Professor Yunus has already encouraged the EU to invest in halal factories in Bangladesh, aiming to establish a halal manufacturing hub. His visit to China will focus on attracting global investors from China to Bangladesh,” he added.

Lutfe Siddiqui, the Chief Advisor’s Special Envoy for International Affairs, highlighted the need to dismantle syndicates controlling various sectors of the economy.

“Wherever the government intervenes, there are syndicates. Breaking this cycle is a key goal of our economic reforms. We've already taken steps to improve governance, such as increasing the capacity of Chittagong Port,” he said.

Regarding political concerns, Siddiqui urged the public and media to focus on institutional inefficiencies rather than just election timing.

“Instead of asking when the elections will be held, we should ask why government departments are not performing their duties properly,” he stated.

Dr. Yunus’s visit to China is expected to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation and open new investment opportunities, contributing to Bangladesh’s transition from an LDC to a more diversified and self-sustaining economy.
