Feni, June 8, (V7N)- The aftermath of Cyclone Remal in the Bay of Bengal has resulted in significant devastation in Sonagazi, with damage estimated at approximately Rs. 10 crore.
 
Rural Electricity Infrastructure: About 10 poles of rural electricity infrastructure were broken, with wires torn at 131 spots. Additionally, 12 poles were displaced, 9 insulators were broken, and 6 cross arms, 25 cutouts, and 6 transformers were destroyed. Furthermore, 30 lightning arresters and 61 meters were damaged, resulting in an estimated loss of Rs. 10 lakhs.
 7 kacha houses were completely destroyed, while 80 others sustained partial damage.
Approximately 5 hectares of crops suffered partial damage, resulting in an estimated loss of Rs. 4 lakh 50 thousand.
Damage to 18 km of forest area incurred an estimated loss of Rs. 54 thousand.
 
Damage in the fisheries sector amounted to approximately Tk 19 lakh 70 thousand, with 35 ponds damaged, resulting in a loss of Tk 10 lakh 50 thousand. Additionally, 3 boats were partially damaged, with an estimated loss of Tk 2 lakh 40 thousand.
 
2 primary schools sustained partial damage, resulting in an estimated loss of Rs. 40,000.
 
Damage to 1.50 km of Kachanrasta and 01 mosque was estimated at Tk 5 lakh 25 thousand and Tk 10 thousand, respectively.
 
Upazila Executive Officer Kamrul Hasan noted that while Cyclone Remal did not cause extensive damage in Sonagazi, it did leave its mark, particularly affecting electricity, fisheries, and housing in the area.
