Dhaka, Jan 21 (V7N) — Voting for the 13th National Parliament election will be held simultaneously in 300 constituencies, while elections in Pabna-1 and Pabna-2 constituencies have been scheduled for February 12. The announcement was made by Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor of the interim government, during a briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka on Wednesday (January 21) afternoon.
Alam confirmed that the printing of ballot papers will begin at midnight today. He said that the upcoming parliamentary election and referendum will see 64.8 million male voters and 62.8 million female voters casting their votes. A total of 42,779 polling stations and 247,499 booths have been prepared to facilitate the process.
To ensure election security, around 100,000 army personnel, 150,000 police officers, 8,000 RAB members, and fire service staff will be deployed. Additionally, 500 drones will be used to monitor election activities. Each polling station will have at least 15 law enforcement officers, with 18-19 officers assigned to high-risk centers.
Alam stated that the Chief Advisor has directed the Election Commission to provide all necessary support, including ensuring uninterrupted power supply during the elections, especially in areas with shortages.
He also noted that vote counting may be delayed this year due to the simultaneous holding of the referendum and national elections.
