Colombo, Mar 05 (V7N) – Another Iranian warship is reportedly heading toward Sri Lankan territorial waters following a recent US submarine attack, raising regional security concerns.

Sri Lankan Information Minister Nalinda Jayatissa confirmed on Thursday that the second warship is currently outside the nation’s waters. While detailed information about the vessel was not provided, government sources told AFP that the ship carries more than a hundred sailors and there are fears it could be targeted.

The development comes after a medium-sized Iranian warship was sunk by a US submarine near Sri Lanka’s southern coast on Wednesday, resulting in the deaths of at least 87 sailors.

Analysts say the incident shows how the ongoing Middle East conflict, triggered by joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran, is spreading beyond the region. Sri Lanka, which maintains a neutral stance in the conflict, has called for dialogue to resolve the crisis peacefully.
